Danielle, I'm confused. First, I never mention once that I felt like fighting to defend our country was wrong, or that any guilt should be felt by those that have fought honorably for the people they serve. However your comment is proof that the Republicans were able to make the false tie that fighting in Iraq defended us from the root causes of 9/11, which it didn't. 9/11, the terrorist group ran by Osama Bin Laden, and Iraq have nothing in common.

I'm assuming by SOMEONE you are referring to Barack Obama?? Or are you actually referring to Bush, who, when we had Bin Laden in our sights, instead diverted our attention to an unjustified war.

And I'm sorry, but if you still vote Republican after being taken by this swindle, then yes, there is, in some respect, blood on your hands, or at least a pigmented stain on your finger as proof of your vote.

So ... who should feel a heavy burden for all of the lives that were taken fighting for our freedom? Should we?
Or what about all of the lives that were taken on 9/11? Who should have the burden for that? Honestly, there is no proof that we have anything to do with that except for when we had Osama in our sights and SOMEONE told us not to do anything ... just let him go. That's the person who should have the burden of all of this because if Osama was gone a long time ago ... this wouldn't have happened.
This isn't Bush's fault. If you are going to read "facts" then you need to read both sides - not just one.
No I'm not a Bush lover, but I'm also not a Bush hater. I believe he's done some goods things, along with bad things.
I will leave it at that.

Hey Cooper - I agree with you. And hopefully all of the retirement accounts, and small business that have struggled to make payroll - hopefully they start to see their struggles diminish. Perhaps this is a case where McCain, by his grandizement of the incident, worked constituents up more than was necessarily. Who knows.

I was disgusted with congress, who possibly ( I'm not saying for certain here), took a cue from McCain's politicizing of this thing, and started to take calls from their constituents and decided even though they should vote for it it would be more politically sound not to. So a lot of retirement fund went belly up that night, and now because they had to pass it anyway (they just did), they had to add bribes all over the place — millions upon millions of dollars of true waste in order to do something — they did not have the courage to do last weekend. Every single congressmen/women who voted against this bill the first time around should be fired.

They are paid to make the hard choices, the right choices, they are paid to know better than their constituents on certain issues and they are not supposed to have the balls to do it when needed. They failekd.

Cooper - this is why Georgie's war has been so bad for America - he's lost all credibility. I was cracking up watching John Stewart play the speech of 2003 with his speech just the other day. They were almost identical. So can we trust him? I think, unlike the Iraq War, there's been evidence that not all is good on Wall Street for some time. This is why Obama's been taking about necessary reforms. Unfortunately, I don't think America really wants to see what it looks like if our financial markets completely collapse. First there's the Chinese - heavily invested in us - and if we default on their loans, we're going to be in pretty bad shape - to the point that layoffs are just a minor side effect. So we have to do something. I just don't trust Bush, so I'm liking the graduated payments, independent oversight, and cap on CEO pay. It seems like the lesser of 2 evils.

The whole thing is beyond me, and I've been reading up on it for a week.
If we don't bail out wall street it will be quite devastating economically but at the same time Repubs want to instill some capital gains relief which mostly effect the wealthy and those on wall street who are left with profits. There has to be some way to allow the people not to be the sole holders of this loan. Those who managed their credit poorly by overbuying should be held no more liable than those who gave them the mortgages on no margin - a gamble took by both sides and lost by both sides can not save only one side, so I just want to see something which saves both side equally.

Nothing like the fear of imminent global doom to inspire lawmakers to act quickly.

Unfortunately, I have a real accounting degree. The upside to the years of drudgery studying that horrifically boring subject is that it allows me to see through the piles of bullshit that financiers and their political lackies have been churning out in order to support their insanely reckless activity.

I am PISSED. I bask in the glow of your outrage- as should just about everyone with at least a nickel in the rickety banking system. I saved and invested responsibly; now everything is up in the air and about to come crashing down.

Democrats should be ashamed as well- they sat by as Fannie and Freddie grew into the monsters they are now. But, they are the most sane of the two parties and should not bow to the hysteria. Those responsible have to experience real financial loss and jail time if they have acted criminally.

cooper - what really sucks is those of us that watched our retirements tank back in the dot.com bust and all the promises that came out to reform the system, regulate it better. Nothing seems to change.

Politics After 50 - You're absolutely right. Democrats will bend over. I get a sense though that Obama might actually win some points here if he fights the bail out a bit - really put up a fight. The reason is this is a deal that just feels bad...like the Iraq War...and he stood against that, maybe he's take a stand now.

Couldn't have said it better myself, with or without a fake degree. I'm in Paris and afraid to look at the news as your day unfolds and mine wanes. I have started on the cheap Chardonnay. Let's hope it helps.

How do I know that the Democrats in Congress will bend over and hand BushCo the K-Y while they sign the bill with absolutely no caveats? Because, well, I'm a genius.

It's hard to figure isn't it? Why people believe the lies?

John McCain, pretends to be non elite and thinks telling the people what they want to hear will make him win.
It may.

Reagan won by telling the people they were American, strong and could spend all they wanted . Carter ran by telling the people them they needed to do with less, and get off foreign oil, as bad as he was in most most aspects he was right on that, he said we wouldpay dearly and we have, but the people want to hear we are strong, the best, - we will go down hearing that...and believing it - if this common man pretender gets into office.

Sarah - thanks for the compliment. I've had many discussions with my parents (both Republicans) so I know where you're coming from. Obviously, at this point we're going to disagree on who's best for this country, but I hope McCain is willing to work with an Obama administration to implement policy that meets both our goals. :)
