Complex Legislation Mean Some in Congress Never Read

Senator Feinstein Signs Bills Without Fully Understanding

This week’s, Drawing for a Reader, is for Bill, from out West, who drew my attention to this recent story about Dianne Feinstein.

I wish I didn’t have to pick on Democrats so much, considering that this IS a slightly left-leaning political cartoon blog, but the current Democrats have been such easy targets recently with their authorization of warrant-less wiretapping, inability to make progress on the Iraq War, and their failure to pursue impeachment proceedings of Bush & Associates.

The Congress isn’t entirely at fault. Because nothing has been done to curb the influence of Corporations (who often write the bills), legislation that must be voted on are huge, complex works that would probably make Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” read like a cartoon…no offense to Tolstoy, cartoons are fun.

Feds Pump Billions into Economy to Support Trickle (Something) Bushonomics

Fed Pump Billions into Economy to Support Trickle Something Bushonomics

On Friday, August 10, 2007, the Feds pumped billions into temporary reserves, following a similar move the day before, as reported by Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics writer.

About the only thing that hasn’t backfired (yet) for Bush is his laissez faire economic policy. Bush needs one more year of steady economic growth and he’s desperate to not see this go into the tank as well.

The only problem - economies that spend and cut taxes while waging an expensive war, eventually bust (recall the 80’s followed by the early 90’s). Who knows just how much more pumping in this current bull market can take.

Barry Bonds Breaks Record with God-given Talent

August 7, 2007

Barry Bond’s God-Given Talent

Breaking News! Barry Bond’s hits number 756.

This should be reason to celebrate except Barry’s image is mired by the general assumption that he’s used steroids to reach this Hall of Fame mark. Sadly many are celebrating this event, notably the media and the marketing machines that stand to benefit from his new found place in history. So go Bonds! It’s really a sad day only for the fact we celebrate.

(And this pertains to politics in what way? Well, for one he’s being investigated for perjury by congress.)

Democrats Lack Backbone on Controversial Wiretap Bill

August 7, 2007

Democrats Victims of Spinal Tap Bill

After all the protest and hand-wringing by Democrats in both the House and Senate, evidently the prospect of being viewed as weak on terrorism proved too great. 56 Democrats, (40 in the House, and 16 in the Senate), voted for the measure that allows the continued warrant-less wiretap policy.

Rest assured. It’s no longer a secret policy. We’ve all been warned.

Barack Obama’s “Scratch That” Policy on the Fly

August 6, 2007

Barack Obama Policy on the Fly

To counter Hillary Clinton’s assertion of being “irresponsible and naive”, Barack Obama launched a counter punch, and then went on to detail his foreign policy plan. Too hawkish for some on the left, and sounding a bit off the cuff, Barack might be best to reserve arm space for later in the campaign, especially after sounding a little undecided on the use of nuclear weapons.

Rush Limbaugh Endorses Lead Paint

August 5, 2007

Rush Limbaugh’s “No Child Left”

Of all the wacky things Rush Limbaugh has advocated, this one I find most bizarre. On August 3rd, Rush announced his endorsement of lead paint. According to him, the hazards of lead are blown out of proportion. It’s probably a good thing he’s never had kids.
