Whiny Liberal Bloggers Full of Self Importance…and Why Their Helping Obama Appear Moderate
July 1, 2008
Lately I’ve been biting my tongue.
McCain is such a dull candidate he can’t even get the progressives excited about taking him on. Instead, some lefty bloggers are having a hay day challenging Obama’s “surprise” move to the center.
Instead of focusing on real news, policy issues and solutions, like the escalation of bombings in Iraq, or the fact that Afghanistan is still a war claiming lives, or that it now costs over $40 to fill my Honda Civic (which I’m sure concerns most of you out there)… no instead of focusing on the stuff that really matters, the liberal bloggers like the Kos of KOS (sorry - don’t buy the line about getting out the checkbook and penning $2300) who claim the mantel of progressive have had fun bashing Obama.
I’m fine with critiquing policy positions based on fact, but when discussion becomes skewed by idealism, it starts get old, and I start to get less “slightly left leaning.”
But of course no one’s listening.
Congratulations Clinton! You’re officially the candidate for…

the racists that still exist in this country.
What disturbs me is that there is obvious racist sentiments leading to Clinton’s victory in West Virginia. There were reports in exit polling that two-thirds of the voters in West Virginia would not vote for Obama because he is black. This should disturb Clinton more than anyone. Why should she celebrate in their votes? And it should disturb her supporters. It taints anyone that supports her.
Clinton has no chance of winning the nomination. It’s over. It’s long been over, but the Democratic party has been patient with her. And yet she continues on, based on the hope that super delegates will cozy to her broad base appeal argument.
My argument against the broad based appeal and the idea that Obama can’t win white, working class American’s is basic. I don’t want to be in a party that has racists. Period. I thought that was the other party (in fact the last two presidential elections West Virginia did in fact go to Repubicans). So if the Democratic party wants to make the argument that in order to win the election, it must appeal to this group, then sorry - I’m not party to that.
In fact if Hillary truly is not a racist then I’d expect her to come out and reject, repudiate and denounce the votes of the two-thirds of West Virginia. But of course we wont’ hear anything like that, instead we’ll have to endure another three weeks of torture as this nomination process slowly bleeds campaign money that could be going to the fight against McCain.
Wow…it makes you proud to be an American for the first time… right Michelle?
Bitterness in Small Town USA
April 12, 2008
A slow news cycle means the silliness returns to the Democratic primary campaign. The most important issue facing Americans today, is Barack Obama’s “elitist” comment on the roots of bitterness and the justification of bigotry in small town USA.
My problem with the Clinton camp making a big deal out of this is first, there are much more important issues at stake (the whole reason Americans are bitter with their government) and it looks desperate on her part. And second, it’s pretty common knowledge that Obama does not pull well in rural areas of uneducated, white voters in the first place. Other than solidifying her base in rural, predominantly Republican districts, I’m not sure where this gets her.
Hell, either way, I thought I’d do a little pot stirring myself.
Easy Boy, Britney’s Not Hot No More
September 10, 2007

Remember the Pepsi commercial with Bob Dole? Those were the good old days of politics. No wars to protest, or George W Bush to battle. Just an ample dose of Viagra, cola…and of course Britney Spears.
By they way, did you know she was back? Me neither. But I guess she showed up at the MTV Awards in Vegas and performed miserably. I actually feel a bit sorry for the girl. One of the biggest criticisms of her performance…her less than rock solid abs. Geez, aren’t we shallow Americans. I’m sure a majority of us would trade our current abs for her less than solid abs any day. (UPDATE: I hadn’t watched the MTV Awards so I’d only seen a photo of her current abs. I watched this clip on CNN of Britney’s Performance and I take back my earlier statement. She does has abs like the rest of us - the only difference, we don’t get on stage and try to dance in front of millions….oh it’s sad.)
Anyway, enjoy a trip down memory lane and watch the ol’ Britney Pepsi commercial with Bob Dole.
American Politics At Home And Why Nothing Ever Gets Done
September 8, 2007
This drawing is a bit late for the Friday Drawing for a Reader (see the Blogger Bomb #2 for an explanation), but it’s here all the same.
I’ve overheard the above conversation many times, probably because we don’t typically get married based on political preferences, or one’s political disposition changes over time. Either way, reader Bill’s point about Oregon’s one Democrat and one Republican Senator canceling each other out is a direct reflection of this couch talk on the home front.
Perhaps we should get Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden together in a little counseling chat. Of course, my preference would be to change the color of Gordon to blue, but you can’t always get what you want.
Credit Crunch on Middle American Dreams
September 3, 2007
Ah, if only the American Dream purchased on easy credit were so simple to leave behind.
With the previous tightening of the bankruptcy laws (aimed to protect big banks and their questionable lending practices) many American’s won’t find it so easy to excuse themselves of debt this time around.
The cycle of easy credit with an easy escape (either by refinancing an appreciated property or Chapter 7 bankruptcy that previously allowed many to walk away from unsecured debt for only a few hundred bucks) is no longer an option. It’s also a situation the economy hasn’t faced before and any recession caused by the current housing market slowdown, could be prolonged by the difficulty the middle class will have getting back on stable financial feet.
Of course, in a country where welfare is viewed negatively by capital idealists, there’s pretty much a guarantee that any trouble by the big corporations will find some sort of corporate welfare so they survive.
Bush Fails to See True Similarities Between Vietnam and the Iraq War
August 25, 2007
This week Bush finally had the courage to draw a connection between the Iraq War and the Vietnam War. Not surprising, they were the wrong connections. It’s amazing that we’ve allows this guy to sit behind a nuke button for nearly eight years and not live in more fear than we do.
Anyway, I guess I’ve made my point, drawn my cartoon. So enough said. It’s Saturday, and I’ve got some shopping to do.
