AFL-CIO President Says Everything That Needs to Be Said

October 4, 2008

Watch this video.

After watching this video, you’ll likely realize that there’s really not much more that needs to be said about whom you should vote for.

Either you agree with AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, and you’ll be voting for Obama on November 4th. Or you’re a Republican. There’s no being Independent this year.

And if you’re a Republican, if you’re a really honest Republican, a Republican guided by principles, you’ll examine your life, your job. And if you find that if you have health care, and a pension, you’ll go in to work on Monday and throw those back at your boss - because they’re the product of the Labor and Union movement you despise.

And if you’re retired, you’ll look at your Social Security check, and you’ll tear it up, because that check is an example of socialism, the new deal, and taxes.

And you’ll yank your kids out of public school, and stop wearing seat belts when you drive because those are silly regulations put in place by liberal leftists consumer advocates and educators. And you’ll go looking for a new job, a job that pays far less than a livable wage because you wouldn’t want to bargain for better pay.

Yeah, if you’re an honest Republican, you’ll do all those things.

But the truth is…if you’re a Republican still reading this far…I’m going to bet you won’t do any of those things, because the catch is honesty in a Republican.

Thank You Hillary

Hillary Clinton A Party United
Throughout this campaign this blog has not been the kindest to Hillary Clinton. I place blame for that squarely on reaction to what I felt was a devisive message from her campaign. And this feeling was only reinforced on Tuesday evening when a concession speech sounded more self congratulating.

With that sentiment, I watched her concession speech this morning and I have to say, it was probably the best speech she’s delivered.

Thank you Hillary. I for one feel that in this one speech you took ten giant strides to unifying this party for the November election, and the defeat of John McCain. And in the end, if Barack Obama does not win the nomination, it will not be because of your lack of effort, but the fact that John McCain was the better candidate…oh doesn’t the RNC and the Republican ditto heads only wish.

Best. And go Democrats in 2008.

(UPDATE: The illustration for this post was of course inspired by Shepherd Fairey, who was inspired others, who were inspired by even more others…). If you want to see more of his work, check out obeygiant.com.)

McCain’s Response to Katrina…Bottled Hot Water for Babies

June 5, 2008

It’s the rare time when I’m inspired to post twice in one day. My apologizes. I will keep this short.

On Tuesday when I watched McCain’s speech, I remember thinking this line odd, but I didn’t pay it too much attention. I was too transfixed by the Hamas-green background and the strange white flake that kept popping up at the bottom of my screen. However, after I summed up my previous post, I came across the following video on YouTube…and I’m curious, Does anyone know what he’s talking about? I don’t have children (a likely reason I have time to write two blog posts), so I’m not familiar if this is a common practice for dealing with dehydration.

I did a quick Google search and found that

“…a baby who is being breast-fed should be given clear liquids for two consecutive feedings before breastfeeding is resumed. A bottle-fed baby should be given formula diluted to half its strength for the first 24 hours after developing symptoms of dehydration.” (Source: Follow Link).

Since I’ve never prepared formula, I had to do a search for that as well. From a quick read of the instructions, it seems that boiling hot water is a step in the formula preparation process, but the actual formula delivered to the infant is cooled. So it appears that just getting water of any kind with a method for heating the water to a boil is what’s critical, not bottled hot water…to be delivered directly to the sick child. In fact hot water in plastic bottles is known to release poisons that are passed onto the child.

However, if there are any readers out there that have actually used bottled hot water to treat their child’s dehydration, please enlighten me.

Congratulations Clinton! You’re officially the candidate for…

May 13, 2008

the racists that still exist in this country.

What disturbs me is that there is obvious racist sentiments leading to Clinton’s victory in West Virginia. There were reports in exit polling that two-thirds of the voters in West Virginia would not vote for Obama because he is black. This should disturb Clinton more than anyone. Why should she celebrate in their votes? And it should disturb her supporters. It taints anyone that supports her.

Clinton has no chance of winning the nomination. It’s over. It’s long been over, but the Democratic party has been patient with her. And yet she continues on, based on the hope that super delegates will cozy to her broad base appeal argument.

My argument against the broad based appeal and the idea that Obama can’t win white, working class American’s is basic. I don’t want to be in a party that has racists. Period. I thought that was the other party (in fact the last two presidential elections West Virginia did in fact go to Repubicans). So if the Democratic party wants to make the argument that in order to win the election, it must appeal to this group, then sorry - I’m not party to that.

In fact if Hillary truly is not a racist then I’d expect her to come out and reject, repudiate and denounce the votes of the two-thirds of West Virginia. But of course we wont’ hear anything like that, instead we’ll have to endure another three weeks of torture as this nomination process slowly bleeds campaign money that could be going to the fight against McCain.

Wow…it makes you proud to be an American for the first time… right Michelle?

Bush Lays Out the Foundation for Peace, One Body at a Time

March 25, 2008

Bush Lays Foundation for Peace with 4000 Dead

Yesterday, Bush stated in an address, that the 4,000 deaths in Iraq have laid the foundation for peace.

The Blood Tag: 4,000 US dead. Nearly 30,000 US wounded.

The Treasure Tag: $500,000,000,000 USD and counting.

The Collateral Tag: 82,000 Iraqis and counting

That’s all I’m going to say.

Peace

Bush and Cheney Bury Nations Blood and Treasure

Burying Blood and Treasure

A lot has happened this week, including (insert surprise here) George Bush’s continued strategy to remain in Iraq until the end of his term, with a coordinated withdrawal of the “so called surge” troops right before the 2008 election.

When hasn’t this administration used terrorism and the Iraq War for political positioning?

Today’s cartoon was inspired by Martin Lewis on The Huffington Post (September 12, 2007).

Note: On the cartoon style this week - sorry, not as refined as my other ‘toons. I keep trying to get a drawing out everyday, but I continue to be slammed by other work.  Hope you enjoy either way.

Voting Republican Leaves Blood on Your Hands…

September 11, 2007

Voting Republican Leaves Blood On Hands

Beware. What follows is an IrishSpacemonk soapbox moment (as if this entire blog isn’t).

Okay - you’ve been fairly warned.

Let me begin by explaining that every time I’m reminded we are at war in Iraq (which is just about every day) I’m also reminded that twice, half of America voted for the man in office that put us in this quagmire. And I’m confused by polls that show a majority of American’s think Iraq was a mistake, and yet we still remain at war, with no calls for impeachment for Bush or Cheney, despite obvious crimes.

I’ve always felt that anyone who voted for Bush in both elections should feel a heavy burden for every death, both US and Iraqi. And I’m sure most do. But it’s time to take that burden and sorrow beyond supporting the economy through consumerism and take real action. And the most simple step any Republican can take is vote Democrat in 2008.

Of course, if you’ve read this far, it’s very likely your not a Republican, and this post is just one of many useless soapbox moments.
